So the realities of being laid off are sinking in. Have gone for an interview in Portland, although was not chosen. Which is ok, only b/c was not thrilled with Portland...although close to family was nice. I thought if I was going to be in a 'city' environment. Might as well be in my old stomping ground, Long Beach area.
Enjoyed my trip with Anna, was gone for 2 wks. Got her pretty settled in her apartment in Indy and she has a great view. Got to see the city as well as friends in Georgia and Chicago. Returned last wk and finished my annual MD appts, fun j/k.
This week entered the real world of being out of work...not fun, for real :( Completed my unemployment claim over the phone, they don't even have an office. Went to a Professional Employment Agency to try and get both temp, PT and FT work. Had a flash back to summer of '89 when I did temp work for a few months...wasn't bad, but that was before I had a Master's. It was humbling to be taking placement tests for job matching...solving math word problems, yuk. I am awful with fractions...that why I am a social worker and NOT a nurse, and science. Anyway, not having a lot of luck with some of the clerical jobs applied for...don't have the experience with Excel, etc.
Tomorrow leaving for Austin, TX. Looking forward to my first Planet Cancer 25-40 yr old Retreat at the The Crossroads Retreat Center. Have been on the Planet Cancer website for over a year and have enjoyed connecting with other cancer survivors and current cancer patients. Plus, never been to TX. :)
